Oskar, the Christmas Tree Elf is a nostalgic Christmas story about Dannie Parker, her brother Vinnie, their parents Sue and Rob, and their visit to Grandma and Grandpa Krupzer’s Christmas tree farm in Northrup, Oregon. The family arrives just before a winter storm, continuing a long-standing Christmas Eve tradition of choosing, cutting, decorating, and celebrating around a live Christmas tree. While searching the fields with Grandpa, Dannie discovers an extraordinary tree and meets Oskar, a tiny Christmas tree elf who lives within it. Oskar explains that tree elves care for trees throughout their lives and that he has followed the Krupzer family for centuries, from Germany to Maine and then to Oregon.

Dannie persuades her family to choose Oskar’s enormous tree, which becomes the centerpiece of the Krupzer farmhouse. The family decorates it with generations of treasured ornaments, handmade wooden cranberry strands, glittered pinecones, old-fashioned tinsel, lights, and a revolving stand tied to family history. As the day unfolds, the story weaves together Christmas traditions, family memories, tree-farming facts, and reflections on cycles of life, loss, and renewal.

That night, Dannie secretly meets Oskar by the tree. He tells her the history of Christmas tree elves, the Krupzer family, and Santa Claus, explaining how belief allows children to see magic. Dannie then witnesses Santa and his elves arrive, place gifts under the tree, fill stockings, and give her a mysterious present: three old brass keys. Grandma later recognizes the keys as ones she lost when she stopped believing in Oskar as a child. Reunited with the elf, Grandma regains a connection to her childhood wonder and family legacy. The story ends with the suggestion that Dannie may someday continue the Krupzer tradition as a Christmas tree farmer.
